On June 4, 2015, COSCO received the Port of Seattle’s Green Gateway Silver Partner Award, which recognized our environmental achievements at the port and our effort to make the Puget Sound a cleaner place during the 2014 year. COSCO has been a recipient of this award for the past five years, since the award’s inception.
In order to be considered for recognition, carriers must present environmental stewardship efforts that exceed existing environmental regulations and industry standards. Carriers must also participate in the At-Berth Clean Fuels Program. This year, COSCO was praised for our consistent use of low-sulfur fuels beyond the required levels, as well as outreach to our crews on waste and wastewater, earning us high scores in the Air & Energy, Wastewater, and Waste & Sustainability categories.

Port of Seattle CEO Mr. Ted Fick presented the awards to the recipients while Port of Seattle Commissioner, Mr. John Creighton, highlighted the successes that the program has been able to achieve in the past five years. Commissioner Creighton also mentioned that the establishment of the Northwest Seaport Alliance, which was formed to unify management between the Port of Seattle and the Port of Tacoma, will have the potential to include more customers and their vessels.
COSCO’s recognition as a Green Gateway Partner further reinforces our commitment to being an environmentally friendly carrier and reducing our carbon footprint throughout the world.
